New book promises fun science for kids

A new collection of fun science experiments for primary-school children has been published by the NCCR Bio-Inspired Materials in collaboration with partners from the Universities of Fribourg and Geneva, EPFL and Lausanne's Espace des Inventions.

From 2015 to 2018, the Migros Magazine, a weekly newspaper owned by Switzerland’s biggest retailer, published almost 200 weekly science activities for children in collaboration with the book’s partners. The new book, with a foreword from the 2017 Nobel Chemistry Prize winner Jacques Dubochet, contains many of those experiments.

Aimed squarely at children attending primary school and their teachers, “PSCHITT!” provides easy-to-follow instructions in French for each experiment, which can be safely carried out in the kitchen or the schoolroom. Each activity can be carried out using elements that can be found at home or easily purchased.

The book will be sent free of charge to each primary school in French-speaking Switzerland. Hardcopies of the book can also be purchased online at https://pschitt.ch/ or downloaded for free from the same website.
